Surah Al-Kafirun at Ar-Raudhah Mosque

For Surah Al-Kafirun, our Quran Investigators visited Ar-Raudhah Mosque, found the mihrab and gathered at the minbar.

In Quran Investigators, children study a few short surahs together, in class and on field trips. In 2018 and 2019 we ran it in modules. For Surah Al-Kafirun, we took the children to Ar-Raudhah Mosque.

The mihrab and the minbar

Inside the prayer hall the children found the mihrab, which shows the direction we face each time we pray. In the photos they stand right up close to it, pointing and looking up. The collage puts a page from a children's picture book about the mihrab next to the photos of the real one.

Then everyone gathered at the minbar, the carved wooden pulpit, for a group photo. One child holds up the book we were reading together. Another brought a soft toy along.

Around the trip

The same collage shows the group at the entrance with name tags and bags, the children sitting on the floor while an adult reads to them, and a boy smiling over a hand-drawn map. There are worksheets too: pages on Surah Al-Kauthar with little boxes to draw in, and a child's drawing of a family praying side by side.

Module by module

The trip was one part of a bigger programme. The collage for our first module, August to October 2018, shows an excursion to the Science Centre in September for Surah Al-Kauthar, words from Surah Al-Ma'un on a whiteboard, a class on Surah Quraisy and a book on Surah Al-Fil.

In July and August 2019 a run of sessions covered Surah An-Nasr, Surah Al-Kafirun and Surah Al-Kautsar, with a free Quran journaling session for parents and children.

Other outings took us to a mosque with a large beduk drum, a papaya tree, a garden bed, the chicks in a bucket, a library table and the turtle tank at the Science Centre.

One trip was to a craftsman's workshop, where the children looked closely at strands of beads and a tasbih.

Why we go out

Field trips belong to Investigate in our 4-I. The children see and handle something real that connects to the surah they are learning. Back in class, they draw and write about it in their worksheets.
